Within Honeydown

honeydown plantation is an old oak woodland covering over 15 acres which, according to info gleaned from historic maps, has occupied this area for at least 200 years. the ground conditions and ancient hedge banks suggest it’s probably been the home to a woodland for much longer but we’ve had no luck finding evidence of this. we do know some of the oak trees appear to have been planted to contribute towards replenishing the nations timber stocks following the two world wars.

but now the woodland is no longer a managed commercial plantation it is our ambition to diversify the tree species here and develop the habitat into a more natural woodland ecosystem. a quarter of the woodland is being allowed to rewild naturally and a woodland diversification and restocking programme is being rolled out over the coming years across the remaining site to ensure a vibrant habitat for wildlife and plant species is created for future generations to enjoy.
